Sumer Northern Ireland is set to increase its headcount by 100 over the next three years, building on a 20% growth since its June 2024 acquisition by UK-based Sumer Group.
The Belfast firm now employs 130 professionals across audit, forensic accounting, corporate finance, and innovation tax reliefs.
The expansion reflects Sumer NI’s dual focus: strengthening local expertise while leveraging the scale and specialist insights of the 2,400-strong Sumer Group. The Belfast hub also oversees Sumer Group’s R&D services across the UK, with a rapidly growing audit team of more than 60 staff.
Managing partner Brian Clerkin highlighted the integration benefits: combining local knowledge with broader resources has enabled the firm to extend its client base while maintaining personal service. “The R&D team is now assisting companies across the UK, creating efficiencies and unlocking new opportunities,” he said.
The firm continues to prioritise the SME sector, offering audit, internal audit, tax, corporate finance, and forensic accounting services. Graduate recruitment remains strong, with around 20 new hires annually, alongside structured mentoring and training programmes. These initiatives aim to develop staff at all levels, from graduates to senior professionals, fostering career growth within a culture emphasising respect and inclusivity.
Sumer NI’s strategic growth demonstrates its commitment to combining local market understanding with the benefits of a national mid-market accountancy network. The expansion is designed to strengthen service delivery, deepen expertise, and maintain trusted client relationships while supporting a growing team.
Sumer Northern Ireland is steadily reinforcing its position in the UK accountancy sector, aligning ambitious staffing plans with broader strategic goals across audit and advisory services.
