Lloyd’s partners with Ireland to drive insurtech innovation

Lloyd’s, the world’s oldest insurance and reinsurance market, has partnered with Ireland’s Department of Finance to foster insurtech innovation and strengthen the global visibility of Irish expertise. The collaboration will create a dedicated Irish-themed cohort within the Lloyd’s Lab Accelerator Programme in the first half of 2026.

The Lloyd’s Lab, established in 2018, acts as a launchpad for scalable innovation, connecting companies with market experts to co-develop insurance solutions. The Accelerator Programme forms its core, supporting the development of commercially viable solutions to emerging risks.

A Statement of Intent formalises the partnership, signalling shared ambitions to deepen cooperation and provide technical support to the Irish insurance sector. In 2024, Ireland, one of Lloyd’s largest European markets, recorded a gross signed premium of €661 million.

Patrick Tiernan, Chief Executive of Lloyd’s, said the initiative will spotlight Ireland’s insurtech talent while strengthening global connections. “Together, we’re creating a platform for solutions that can enhance resilience, unlock new premium, and shape the future of insurance in Ireland and worldwide,” he added.

Paschal Donohoe TD, Ireland’s Minister for Finance, described the programme as a vote of confidence in Ireland’s financial services ecosystem, highlighting its skilled workforce, regulatory strength, and innovative culture. Minister of State Robert Troy noted that hosting a Lloyd’s innovation programme reinforces Ireland’s commitment to reform and competitiveness in insurance.

Applications for the programme will open on December 10, 2025, offering Irish firms the opportunity to engage with Lloyd’s global network and accelerate the development of cutting-edge insurance solutions.
