Mid-market organisations often face a difficult balancing act: moving beyond entry-level accounting software without being burdened by the cost and complexity of full-scale ERP systems. This unmet need for what many describe as the “mid-market cloud gap” has created demand for finance solutions that combine power, flexibility, and affordability.
iplicit is stepping into that space with a purpose-built true-cloud accounting platform. Designed for businesses and charities scaling beyond entry-level software, it delivers enterprise-grade functionality, such as multi-entity consolidation, enhanced automation, and real-time reporting, within a user-friendly, cost-effective environment.
In this Q&A, I spoke with Alan Connor, Managing Director of iplicit Ireland, which is reshaping how mid-market organisations approach finance.
Can you explain how iplicit’s solution addresses this mid-market challenge?
We sit squarely in the space between entry level accounting systems and the more expensive and complex ERP platforms. Our focus is delivering user-friendly and easy to use enterprise-grade functionality and flexibility without the complexity or price tag.
For example, we offer seamless multi-entity consolidation, unlimited levels of analysis, drilldown to all data within the live environment, AI automation, exceptional workflow approvals throughout, and real-time reporting. What makes us different is that it’s all delivered in a true-cloud architecture with fast deployment, regular updates, and most importantly local service and support in Ireland.
What industry trends are driving demand for solutions like this?
The market is seeing rapid migration to cloud finance systems to replace physical servers, improve efficiencies, reduce IT costs, to harness the latest in AI and machine learning automation, and simply to get more from your cloud journey - not to just replace legacy system limitations by settling for the same limitations in the cloud.
Compliance, provable approval workflows, auditability, security, and cloud-based API integrations are also becoming a necessity rather than a nice-to-have. Companies and Charities need platforms that can keep pace with these pressures while remaining accessible and agile.
Where do you see the biggest growth opportunities?
The largest opportunity is modernising the underserved mid-market. Many businesses still rely on feature-rich on-premise tools but know they need to transition to the cloud.
Others have stretched their starter systems to the limit and now need more robust functionality. We’re also deepening partnerships with accountants and resellers, and tailoring solutions for fast-growing and discerning sectors such as Not For Profit, SaaS & technology, and Finance sectors to name but a few.
How central is innovation to iplicit’s approach?
Innovation is fundamental. Our platform was engineered from the ground up as a true-cloud solution, not retrofitted from legacy software. That allows us to scale with client needs while embedding automation, AI and advanced analytics. Our in-house developers drive continuous innovation, ensuring the product evolves in step with customer needs and regulatory change.
What makes iplicit stand out in a crowded market?
We combine enterprise-level capability with ease of use and affordability. Our cloud-native design and customer-first culture mean clients get a powerful system that is also straightforward to adopt and supported locally. This positions us not just as a technology provider but as a partner helping businesses scale efficiently and transparently, backed with over 30 years of accounting software development, service, and support in Ireland and the UK.
What challenges and threats does the sector face?
Historically, complacency and fear of the cloud were major barriers. That’s changing quickly, with a far greater understanding of the benefits of cloud accounting across Ireland. The bigger challenges today are busy finance departments being so overworked that they can’t rise above the parapet to adopt better solutions.
We address this understanding with strong onboarding processes, iterative project delivery and management, clear project visibility, and scalable technology that can adapt to each client’s internal pressures, solution needs, and available resources.
Where do you see iplicit in five years’ time?
Our ambition is to be the default mid-market cloud finance platform in Ireland and beyond. We are well advanced in building a thriving partner ecosystem, deepening our expertise in key verticals, and bring AI-driven financial intelligence to the forefront. We have already disrupted the complacent accounting software market over the last 5 years with our exceptional growth to-date and customer-first approach.
Ultimately, our mission is to help mid-market businesses achieve the same level of insight and agility as larger enterprises, but in a way that is affordable and accessible.
