Grant Thornton, the private equity-backed professional services and accountancy firm, is set to relocate its Northern Ireland operations to The Ewart building in Belfast, marking a strategic move as the firm continues its rapid growth.
Business & Accountancy Daily reports that the new 23,000 sq ft office across two floors will accommodate the expanding team and provide modern, sustainable workspaces in one of the city’s premier commercial developments.
With current headcount at 250, the Belfast office hired 70 new staff in 2025 alone. Grant Thornton highlighted that this growth is driven by increasing client demand for advisory, audit and tax services.
The Ewart, a landmark 17-storey building featuring BREEAM Excellent sustainability standards, is expected to become a hub for professional services, combining heritage architecture with modern grade A facilities.
Steve Tennant, managing partner, Grant Thornton Ireland, said: “Our move to The Ewart, along with the creation of more than 70 new roles in 2025, demonstrates both the scale of our ambition and our belief in the Northern Ireland market. Our growth is testament to the extraordinary work our Belfast team delivers for clients both locally and globally, and we look forward to further expansion as our platform continues to evolve.”
Richard Gillan, managing partner, Grant Thornton Northern Ireland, added: “By continuing to invest in our office and people in Belfast, we are ensuring we have the resources required to support organisations as they navigate complexity, seize opportunities and grow sustainably.”
The relocation also reinforces The Ewart’s status as a leading address for professional services firms, joining a growing roster of legal, financial, and consulting organisations in the building. CBRE NI and Savills facilitated the transaction for the developers and Grant Thornton, respectively.
