EY has appointed two new equity partners in Northern Ireland as part of a wider round of senior promotions across the island, expanding its leadership team and strengthening its advisory capabilities. The appointments are relevant to the accountancy profession as firms continue investing in specialist expertise across tax, consulting and assurance to support evolving client requirements.

The Irish News reported that Alastair Allen and Shannon Cunningham have joined the partnership in Northern Ireland alongside 10 other new equity partners appointed across the island. The latest appointments increase EY's total number of partners to 157, while the firm employs more than 5,400 people across seven locations in Ireland.

According to EY, the promotions reflect increased investment across assurance, tax and law, consulting, strategy and transactions, together with growth areas including artificial intelligence, aviation and healthcare. The firm said the appointments form part of its continued investment in talent and leadership while supporting business growth across the region.

Allen joins the partnership within EY's consulting practice as a healthcare technology specialist. He leads digital and technology-enabled transformation initiatives across the healthcare sector, focusing on improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency through the use of data, digital health technologies and strategic partnerships.

Cunningham has been admitted as a partner in tax after more than 13 years advising clients on tax structuring, reorganisations, transaction tax matters and international tax matters. A chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser, she advises private equity firms together with private and public companies operating across the UK market.

The appointments span a range of disciplines that are central to EY's advisory business, including assurance, tax, consulting and corporate transactions. They also expand the firm's senior leadership at a time when organisations are seeking specialist advice across technology transformation, regulatory compliance, business restructuring and growth initiatives.

Northern Ireland Managing Partner Rob Heron said: “Congratulations to all our new EY partners, on reaching this significant milestone. Northern Ireland continues to be a key area of focus for EY, with a strong mix of dynamic indigenous businesses, growing international investment and a vibrant public sector. These appointments reflect our long-term commitment to serving the region.”

The appointments bring together expertise across consulting and tax while reinforcing EY's investment in expanding its partnership across the island. The firm said the additions support its strategy of growing capabilities in established service lines and emerging sectors while continuing to invest in people and leadership.
