The Chartered Accountants Ulster Society has appointed Angela Craigan as its new chairperson, placing a 24-year veteran of Belfast practice HM Chartered Accountants at the helm of a body representing more than 5,900 chartered accountants across Northern Ireland, as reported by The Accountant Online.
The appointment was announced at the Society's 119th Annual General Meeting, where Craigan set out her theme for the year, centred on positioning chartered accountants and member companies as "Difference Makers."
Craigan said: "It is a real honour and privilege to take on this role and I am genuinely excited about the year ahead. Our society has a strong focus on supporting our members and ensuring their voices are heard clearly and effectively. We are positive about Northern Ireland, its people, its business community and its prospects."
She pointed to Northern Ireland's resilience and determination as defining characteristics of the region and its professional community, noting that chartered accountants operate across the private, public and voluntary spheres.
Craigan described members as trusted figures who enable organisations and communities to progress, and stressed that chartered accountants have a key part to play in advancing Northern Ireland's economic objectives and in helping the region realise its potential.
She added: "Behind many of Northern Ireland's success stories, you will find a CA helping to make things happen. Helping businesses to grow, making organisations succeed, creating opportunities and helping communities to thrive. I want to celebrate the difference that our members are making every day with their clients, with their organisations and in the local community."
The Chartered Accountants Ulster Society is a district society of Chartered Accountants Ireland, the island's principal professional accountancy body. Chartered Accountants Ireland represents over 31,000 members across the island of Ireland and internationally, making the Ulster Society's membership of more than 5,900 a significant share of the wider network.
The appointment comes at a period of growing operational and regulatory complexity for finance professionals in Northern Ireland, as businesses navigate cross-border trade arrangements, evolving disclosure requirements and continued pressure on public sector financial management.
