Accountancy group AAB, based in the UK, has strengthened its Irish presence with the acquisition of Cork chartered accountants O’Connor Pyne & Co, a firm employing 65 staff and operating across a broad regional client base. The transaction underlines ongoing consolidation within the accountancy sector as firms seek scale, geographic reach, and expanded specialist capability.
The acquisition follows AAB’s purchase last year of Dublin-based firm Ormsby & Rhodes, signalling a sustained investment strategy in the Irish accountancy market.
With the addition of O’Connor Pyne & Co, AAB’s annual revenues are expected to increase by €20m, bringing total group revenues to approximately €120m. Its Irish workforce will rise to around 200 people, reinforcing Ireland as a core growth market for the group.
Founded 20 years ago, O’Connor Pyne & Co has built a strong regional reputation and maintains established links with Munster Technological University.
The firm’s integration into AAB broadens access to additional advisory, audit, tax, and specialist accountancy services for clients across Munster, while providing staff with opportunities within a larger international organisation.
The deal reflects mounting pressure on firms to invest in scale and multidisciplinary expertise. Regulatory complexity, talent competition, and rising client expectations around advisory depth are driving M&A activity across professional services.
Larger platforms are increasingly attractive to mid-sized firms seeking resilience, investment capacity, and access to broader technical resources.
For AAB, the acquisition enhances its ability to serve Irish owner-managed businesses, corporates, and institutions with a wider range of accountancy and advisory services, while embedding deeper regional coverage outside Dublin.
The firm’s growing Irish footprint also supports cross-border service delivery for clients operating between Ireland and the UK.
